An Anand Karaj is the traditional Sikh wedding ceremony, meaning "Blissful Union." It is a spiritual and sacred event that unites a couple in marriage through the presence and guidance of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the central scripture of Sikhism. The ceremony involves the reading and singing of the Lavan Pheras (sacred hymns), in which the bride and groom would walk around the Guru Granth Sahib four times symbolizing their commitment to a life centred on Sikh values and mutual devotion. It's a peaceful, respectful, and deeply meaningful celebration of love, equality, and unity before God. Following on from this, guests will be served langar (lunch) in the Gurdwara.

Please DO:

· Please keep your head covered while at the Gurdwara – we will be suppling ramals (head coverings) for the men on both sides of the family. We ask women to please not wear black/white head coverings.

· Remove shoes before going up to the Darbar (Ceremony Hall).

· Always wash your hands on entry and before taking any food.

· Please bring some loose change for the Matha Tekh when you enter the ceremony hall (The respectful gesture of bowing your head in front of the holy scripture).

Please DO NOT:

· Wear hats/hoodies/baseball caps

· Bring alcohol or tobacco to the Gurdwara

· Point your feet towards the Guru Granth Sahib Ji (holy book) or sit with your back faced away from it.

We ask for men to please wear a smart suit and women to wear traditional Punjabi outfits. Head coverings are mandatory for men, women and children. Please refrain from wearing tight/revealing clothing e.g skirts, shorts, dresses, backless/low cut tops. And please keep your head covered at all times in the Gurdwara (see Do’s and Do Not’s).
